ACL has been Amazing throughout the years for Austin's Music scene and for Austin's economy.
This 10 year anniversary was no exception. Unfortunately, The Zilker Park field is becoming to small for this event. I could not get past the sound booth at any of the stages this year. It used to be that I could go from stage to stage and catch anyone I wanted and still be close enough to the big guys. At Ben Harper in 2005, I got in the front row 10 minutes before the show. Now I am lucky to get to a point that I can actually see the performer.
We need to find a bigger venue or at least allow it to pour across Barton Springs, into the field where all the bike racks are. May I suggest a temporary bridge over the street to two more stages? This would allow more space for viewers and more space to gain a broader variety of bands.
Next year I may not go to ACL, simply because of the lack of space. If C3 can find solutions to this issue, I will reconsider.
They would make more money and people would be happier throughout the weekend.
Thanks for letting me rant!
