Ok, So I know you have all been waiting in anticipation for my reviews of ACL. Let me first say, sorry it took me so long to get to these. My first blog in the series will start with Kanye West.
His Friday night headliner was disappointing at best. This was his last show using "the wall" which is a giant picture featuring Kanye floating on a cloud like a god. This is supposed to inform his viewers that he is heaven sent and that he, and his talent, is good enough for angels. this was anything but true. His voice cracked and at one point had to start a song over. His pompous attitude only made it feel better when he had to restart. The sound was iffy and his voice did not fill Zilker park like it should have. I feared that the sound would cause him to crumble and walk off stage like he has done before. Kanye did not play anything off of his newest album with Jay-Z. this was very unexpected because it released earlier this year.
During SXSW Kanye played a secret show at the power plant in Austin. At this show he brought out Beyonce, Snoop Dog, and Jay-Z. I anticipated the show at ACL simply because I expected that he would bring out a few famous faces. Needless to say, He didn't. I was pissed. Unfortunately, I had to fight myself to stay till the end of ACL's Friday night closer. At first I was excited because ACL had added more hip-hop to the lineup, however, Kanye was a bad representation of hip-hop at a festival. Overall I give his show two big thumbs down.

Austin City Limits
O.K. all you Austinites, Central Texans, and music lovers all over the world, it's that time again!!! ACL is upon us and it could not be hotter. Are you ready for it? I know I am! I was born and raised in Austin and, like most true Austinites, have dreaded watching the growth of this city over the past 15 years. Watching the evolution of this city has been hectic, however, it has brought around new and good change. One of those being this festival. Since its birth in 2002 I have watched it thrive into the beast it is today. Attending several years has taught me a few things about how to survive the extreme heat and conditions resulting in a wonderful weekend. Tomorrow, My blog will entail a list of key tips for survival.
Today however I would like to ask any of you out there if there are any bands that i might should check out to review as future blogs? I will be reviewing a few certain bands in a blog series over the next few weeks. I just thought I'd ask just in case a reader out there might want to hear an in depth report about a certain show. I will be checking out Kanye West, Pretty Lights, Stevie Wonder, Chiddy Bang, and several others for the series already. Please grace me with your requests!

When it hits you, you feel no pain...
We all know the famous words sung by Bob Marley, but how many of you have put this to the test. Now I know, there is music out there that preys on the sadder side of the emotion spectrum. Also, I realize these types of songs may tend to remind us of painful memories. These memories could be so sad it feels like it hurts; but as you sit there and bawl your eyes out, while you sing along at the top of your lungs, it miraculously starts to feel better. It helps you cope with the emotion and eventually starts to heal it.
I am also well aware that there is music out there that we as individual musical consumers do not appreciate. That anti-appreciation may make it feel like it is hurting out ears or head, however, that is some other persons magic healing potion. When it hits them, they can get through anything.
Music is one of the few things that can cure, assist, and inspire us all in 3 to 7 minutes. I mean think about it! What songs do you play while you run on a track, max out on the bench press, or push through that hour-long cardio class? What serenades you through the all night study sessions, during yard work in the 100-degree weather or in the car and office of a 40-hour work week?
Music surrounds our lives and fills them with melodic tones that can sooth even the craziest of souls. Even Hitler would kick back and relax with the sounds of Germanic classical composers of the era. Music means something different to every single person. This is what makes something so universal, individual to the self. Certain types of music can grant an individual solitude in times of trouble, it can comfort them in their time of need, or it can take them to another place when their whole world is crumbling down.
The inter-personal relationship that we choose for ourselves can often times define us and hold influence on our everyday life. Speaking from personal experience; a Brandon Boyd lyric ,that had me convinced I would not live past 23, influenced me to live my younger life in a very different way than most. Once I hit 24, my mind was boggled that this lyric, that had meant so much to me, had no control over my life anymore. At first, I felt a sense of confusion and a minor loss of identity. Eventually, it turned into the motivation to get back in school and plan for the future that i needed. Even to this day i am amazed at how much that lyric has influenced my life.
Are there any lyrics, songs or bands that you can identify in a similar way? Music can do many things to and for us if we let it. So I ask; what has music done for you lately?
